University City, population 35,000, is a vibrant suburb of St. Louis located in the heart of the Metropolitan St. Louis area. The city got its start in 1902 when Edward Gardner Lewis purchased eighty-five acres in the area that is now University City for the location of his company headquarters, Lewis Publishing. His dream of building an ideal residential community in the area was realized when University City was incorporated in 1906 and he became the city’s first mayor.
The climate in the area is seasonal, with moderately hot summers and cold winters. Summertime temperatures typically reach into the low 90s, with wintertime lows dropping into the 20s and 30s with the occasional snowfall.
University City is famous for its amazing six-block long shopping and entertainment district known as The Delmar Loop. The Loop is a vibrant and bustling area with no less than ten live music stages and an eclectic assortment of restaurants and retail establishments.
If you enjoy the great outdoors, opportunities abound in and around the city offering outdoor activities and entertainment for the entire family. Heman Park, University City’s largest park at eighty-five acres, features several picnic areas with pavilions, swimming pool, playground, jogging course, a recreational facility and community center, basketball and tennis courts, horseshoe pits, and multiple sports fields for baseball, softball, soccer, and football.
For golfers, University City’s Ruth Park Golf Course offers golfing at its finest. The course design was done by Robert Foulis, a world-renowned Scottish golf course designer, and combines the beauty of the area with the challenge of a professionally designed course.
University City is also located within minutes of attractions and venues in the St. Louis Metro Area, making it a great place to stay while visiting the area.
